Wheeler Varsity Bearcats Beat Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees

Wheeler Varsity Bearcats were victorious against Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees 6-2 on Thursday. Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees got on the board in the top of the second inning after Cooper Spagna hit a sacrifice fly, and Cal Lemmons doubled to center field, each scoring one run. David Lindlow grounded out, which helped Wheeler Varsity Bearcats tie the game at two in the bottom of the third. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees committed an error, Christian Cutka singled down the right field line, Victor Hutcheson walked, and Blake Laba hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Caleb McLaughlin led things off on the hill for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking seven. Carter Thibodeau opened the game for Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees. The righty surrendered seven hits and six runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking none. Nick Micciche and Cutka were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. Cutka led Wheeler Varsity Bearcats with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Matthew Lowenthal, Jett Gheaja, and Lemmons each collected one hit for Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees. Spagna and Lemmons each drove in one run for Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees. Morgan Township Varsity Cherokees had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Bradley Farris and Clint Lemmons led the team with two walks each. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats welcome Munster Varsity Mustangs 2025 on Friday for their next game.
