Nick Bravo’s Clutch Hitting Propels Wheeler Varsity Bearcats To Victory Over Whiting

Nick Bravo drove in four runs on three hits to lead Wheeler Varsity Bearcats past Whiting 16-4 on Friday. Bravo hit an inside the park home run in the second scoring three, singled in the first scoring one, and walked in the fourth scoring one. Whiting got on the board in the top of the first inning after K Dunn tripled, scoring two runs, and C Jimenez grounded out, scoring one run. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Bravo singled to the left side of the infield, Whiting committed an error, Caleb McLaughlin singled to the left side of the infield, Christian Cutka grounded out, and Noah Udzielak singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats added eight more runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits. McLaughlin laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, Freddy Gaetz was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Blake Laba drew a walk, scoring one run, Udzielak grounded out, scoring one run, A De Le Larda induced Jack Gaetz to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Bravo hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs. Nick Micciche earned the win for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Dunn took the loss for Whiting. The pitcher went one inning, allowing nine runs (six earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking one. Gaetz tossed two and two-thirds innings of zero-run ball for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out four and walking none. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats collected nine hits in the game. David Lindlow collected two hits for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats in four at bats. Bravo stole two bases. Dunn drove the middle of the lineup, leading Whiting with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats welcome North Newton on Saturday for their next game.
