Wheeler Varsity Baseball Falls To Washington Township

Wheeler Varsity Bearcats fell to Washington Township 4-2 on Thursday. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats opened the scoring in the second after Chase Yanek singled, scoring one run. Washington Township made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the second after Owen Gilbert singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. Washington Township added one run in the third. Liam Scott singled to left field, making the score 4-1. Aiden Armstrong earned the win for Washington Township. The pitcher gave up five hits and two runs (zero earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking three. Caleb McLaughlin took the loss for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking three. Drew Horvath earned the save. Tyler Hughes, Keegan Kuehl, Yanek, Nick Bravo, and David Lindlow each collected one hit for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. Yanek and Blake Laba were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. Bravo stole two bases. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats turned one double play in the game. Gilbert led Washington Township with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 1-for-2 on the day. Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Washington Township in hits. Washington Township had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
