WHS Girls Swim & Dive Sectionals Summary

The WHS girls swim and dive team culminated their season with a 7th place finish at sectionals, Saturday, February 8th at Hobart High School out-scoring Michigan City, Knox, Calumet, Merrillville, Boone Grove and South Central. This dynamic girls team made it into the A Finals for all relays with the help of their teammate Lane Goodrich in prelims on Thursday. Though Lane couldn’t swim on Saturday due to illness, the girls swim team persevered in the A finals scoring well in the following: 6th in the 200 Medley Relay with swimmers Emily Mistina, Mia Pagone, Alexia Orosz and Hailey Morrison; 7th in the 200 Freestyle Relay with swimmers Sadie Bolan, Elena Serrano, Emily Mistina and Alexia Orosz; 6th in the 400 Freestyle Relay with swimmers Alexia Orosz, Sadie Bolan, Mia Pagone and Hailey Morrison. Individual events proved promising adding much needed points to the following events: 200 Individual Medley 11th Hailey Morrison and 12th Mia Pagone; 50 Yard Freestyle 13th Alexia Orosz; Girls 1 Meter Diving 7th Riley Fox, 13th Gracen Herron; 100 Yard Free 15th Sadie Bolan; 500 Yard Freestyle 15th Hailey Morrison; 100 Yard Backstroke 10th Mia Pagone and 15th Emily Mistina; and 100 Yard Breaststroke 14th Demi Tasicas. It was a team effort to get to finals with all the swimmers placing in preliminaries. Scoring in individual events but not progressing to finals above were: 200 Freestyle 24th Elena Serrano, 22nd Demi Tasicas, 26th Claire Blaney; 50 Yard Freestyle 13th Alexia Orosz, 17th Sadie Bolan, 20th Emily Mistina; 100 Yard Freestyle 14th Sadie Bolan, 23rd Rowan Kruszka and 26st Elena Serrano; 100 Yard Backstroke 10th Lane Goodrich (scratch due to illness) and 30th Claire Blaney; 100 Yard Breaststroke 24th Rowan Kruszka. New swimmers Payton Arney, Jena Wotherspoon and Noehmi Lopez did not swim in preliminaries but contributed to the team’s successful season.
