Boys Basketball begins season 1-1

Wheeler Boys Basketball Opens Season 1–1; Strong Performances Highlight First Week The Wheeler boys basketball team opened its season with a 1–1 record, showing great improvement between games one and two. Wheeler fell in its season opener at South Central on Tuesday, dropping a 55–42 decision. Nick Scott led the Bearcats with 13 points, while Tyne Vettickal followed with 11 points of his own. Scott also dished out 5 assists to pace the offense, with Caleb McLaughlin and Logan Fox adding 3 assists each. The Bearcats bounced back in a big way on Friday, defeating Morgan Township 73–59 behind a big performance from Nick Scott. Scott poured in 24 points and knocked down 5 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc to spark the offense. Tyne Vettickal continued his strong start to the season, contributing 13 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman Ty Schafer delivered an impressive all-around game, finishing with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Conner Welch matched him on the boards, pulling down 7 rebounds to share the team lead. Wheeler showcased its depth with balanced scoring throughout the lineup. Sean Schafer and Caleb McLaughlin each added 8 points, Logan Fox chipped in 6, and Cash Kostbade provided 5. Fox also handed out 6 assists and collected 2 steals, helping drive a strong team effort. In total, the Bearcats assisted on 19 of their 23 made field goals—a testament to their unselfish play and improving chemistry. The Bearcats return to action on Tuesday, December 2, when they host Lowell. The JV game will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:00 p.m. JV Recap: The Wheeler JV squad also opened its season at 1–1, securing a win over South Central before falling to Morgan Township. In the victory, the team was led by Logan Hunt’s 19 points, while sophomore Ethan Scott hauled in an impressive 11 rebounds.
