Wheeler Girls Wrestlers Show Grit in 30–18 Battle Against North Newton The Wheeler High School girls wrestling team delivered a determined performance on the mat but ultimately fell short in a competitive 30–18 dual against North Newton. Despite the final score, the Bearcats showcased toughness and promise, highlighted by three standout victories. Anika Villarruel set the tone with an assertive win by pin, giving Wheeler early momentum. Avery Konopacki followed with a dominant performance of her own, securing another pin to keep the Bearcats within striking distance. Closing out Wheeler’s victories, Lilith Watts added the team’s third pin of the day, demonstrating strong technique and control in her matchup. While the Bearcats collected three impressive individual wins, North Newton’s depth made the difference as they claimed enough bouts to secure the team victory. Wheeler will look to build on its strong individual performances as the season progresses, with promising signs that the squad’s hard work and competitive spirit will continue to pay off.
